Meet the Founder & CEO:

Spencer Wood

A University of Maine 13′ graduate Spencer began his undergraduate career at UMaine in 2009 as a defensive end on the football team. He earned NCAA awards both on and off the field. Upon his graduation in 2013, he was invited to become a graduate assistant in the College of Human Development. In May of 2015, he received his Master’s in Human Development with a focus on violence prevention. Spencer founded Tip Whip in January of 2014.

Derek Pratt

Director of Community Engagment

A University of Maine 13′ graduate from Gloucester, MA. Derek obtained his bachelors in Marketing and Communications with a minor in Dance and Theater. Derek was also a member of the University football team as a linebacker.

As an actor and model he has been represented by the best agencies in the country. He has been spotted in GQ Magazine, Versace, and Michale Kors. Derek has ran a variety of successful Social Media pages including his own that has over 45k followers on Instagram.


Zach Quimby

Director of Sales 

A University of Maine 17′ graduate from Bath, ME. Zach received his bachelors in Business Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. He was also an active member in the Greek community at UMaine. Zach started his career with Tip Whip in 2015 as the first ever Campus Manager.

Jacob Landrum

Director of University Relations 

A University of Georgia 16′ graduate from Homerville, Georgia. Jacob graduated with a degree in Agribusiness and worked in the south Georgia Blueberry fields for a year before joining the Tip Whip team this spring.

John Martin


A University of Maine graduate from Plymouth, MA John has been working with Tip Whip since the beginning of 2014. John has worked his way up from starting as one of the first drivers to an executive. He received his degree in Construction Engineering Technology in May ’18.

Edward Mckersie

Investor & Partner

A Massachusetts native, Ed graduated from Bentley University with a dual major in Economics and Finance in 1983 and moved to Maine in 1989. He is the Founder and President of LiveandWorkinMaine LLC, an initiative to increase awareness of career opportunities in Maine. He is also the Founder and President of Pro Search, Inc., a staffing and recruiting firm which is now the largest locally owned firm of its kind in the State of Maine.

Ed has served as the Board Chair of the Maine Center for Enterprise Development and is also a member of the Maine Angels.
